Example: In cross-border cargo trade, goods are often resold or used for financing arrangements during transportation. For this reason, various negotiable cargo documents are used to represent goods in transit and enable the transfer and control of rights in the goods. However, different legal systems vary in the attribution of rights and opposability of such documents, and the relevant systems have long been mainly limited to the maritime transport field. The United Nations Convention on Negotiable Cargo Documents aims to establish a unified legal framework for negotiable cargo documents in various modes of transport, so that the transfer of documents is functionally equivalent to delivery of the goods, and supports their use in trade finance and digital trade. This page presents materials related to the Convention's conferences, signing, implementation and research, documenting its development and application and provide a reference for ongoing practice and discussion.
